Kindergartners should know consonant digraphs by the end of the year, including: sh, th, ch, _tch, _ng, _ang, _ing, _ink, _ank, wh_. Since kindergartners should also know short vowel sounds, they can practice consonant digraphs sounds by reading words like ship, shell, dish, bath, math, then, match, song, sing, blink, bank, when… etc. Here is a digraph worksheet pdf for your kindergartner to practice consonant digraph words:

Notice how not every word contains a consonant digraph?
This worksheet includes interleaving, a key component of effective phonics instruction. Interleaving is mixed practice- mixing old word types with new- so the student cannot guess or predict which word type will occur next. Interleaving ensures that the student will have lasting success in reading. Since the student has to read sound-by-sound (she cannot guess), she builds a strong decoding foundation.
